`BJP more interested in Ayodhya than solving Cauvery row'

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, APRIL 14. The Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) leader, S. Ramadoss, today charged the Bharatiya Janata Party with giving more importance to the Ayodhya issue than resolving the Cauvery problem between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. He said any vote in favour of the BJP-led alliance would only amount to defeating Tamil Nadu's interests.

Dr. Ramadoss said the Prime Minister, A.B.Vajpayee, during his campaign in Karnataka, had reportedly stated the Cauvery issue should be resolved through talks.

This ran counter to the stand of his alliance partner and AIADMK leader, Jayalalithaa, that no purpose would be served by holding talks with Karnataka.

The AIADMK Government had even taken the issue to the Supreme Court, saying talks would not bring about any solution. ``It is funny that both the leaders are airing completely opposite views while remaining alliance partners'', Dr. Ramadoss said in a statement.

One of the reasons for the PMK walking out of the NDA Government and snapping ties with the BJP was that the Vajpayee Government `failed' to take appropriate steps to get Cauvery water from Karnataka.
