Scholarship function held

NEW DELHI APRIL 14. The annual education scholarship function of Ayyappa Sewa Samithi was held today. Eighty-three students were awarded the scholarship this year, including 28 children selected from Delhi Blind School and the National Blind Association, R.K. Puram.

Speaking on the occasion, the temple's Convenor of the Committee for Humanitarian Projects, P.V. Sambhukumar, said the Samiti hoped to award 101 scholarships from next year. He also announced the setting up of a separate fund for extending financial medical assistance to people from the lower income group. While lauding the efforts of the Samithi, the BJP leader V.K. Malhotra, expressed the hope that the organisation would extend such assistance to more people.

Ambedkar Jayanti celebrated

NEW DELHI APRIL 14 . The Delhi Legislative Assembly organised a function at the Assembly Secretariat today to mark the 113th birth anniversary of the Indian Constitution's chief architect, Baba Sahib Bhim Rao Ambedkar. The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, and the Speaker, Ajay Maken, paid floral tributes at the statue of the late freedom fighter on the occasion.

Tehnical festival planned

NEW DELHI APRIL 14. The Maharaja Surajmal Institute of Technology, affiliated to the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, is holding a technical festival titled "Virus 2K4 the bug in you'' on April 15 and 16 at the college campus. The Director of the Indian Institute of Technology-Delhi, R. S. Sirohi, will inaugurate the festival.

The key events at the festival include overnight programming, tech-villa and hardware and software presentations. Participants would be from different engineering colleges of the National Capital Region. Apart from the colleges, a large number of information technology firms will participate in the brain storming session.

`Havan' for peace

NEW DELHI APRIL 14. The Ishwar Ashram Trust will perform "a havan for world peace" this Thursday. "Poorna Ahuti'' will be performed in the early hours of April 16 to coincide with the birthday celebrations of Swami Lakshman Joo Maharaj.
