Rajnikant's decision has rattled DPA: BJP

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, APRIL 14. Democratic Progressive Alliance leaders are rattled by actor Rajnikant's decision to support the Bharatiya Janata Party-All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam front and that is the reason for the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president, M. Karunanidhi's alleged outburst in Coimbatore on Tuesday, the BJP general secretary, H. Raja, said today.

The fear of defeat was "haunting" the DPA leaders.

The BJP leader, who was confident of the front's victory, did not find any anti-incumbency wave in Tamil Nadu. Moreover, he said, it was an election to Parliament and the Tami Nadu electorate would vote for the BJP front to make Atal Bihari Vajpayee Prime Minister again.

Talking to newsmen here, Mr. Raja said the DMK had no locus standi to question the BJP's India shining campaign. For, it was the same party which appealed to the electorate to vote for the BJP in the last Assembly elections for continuation of the "golden rule".

Referring to the Opposition party's poser what was wrong in Sonia Gandhi becoming Prime Minister when the country accepted her as the Opposition leader, Mr. Raja said there was a vast difference between the two posts. Ms. Gandhi, who was still maintaining contacts with Italy, should not be allowed to become Prime Minister as the post meant access to secret documents involving the nation's security.

Ruling out the BJP's role in Monday's sari distribution function in Lucknow, where 22 persons died in a stampede, Mr. Raja said it was organised by a social service organisation in which the senior party leader, Lalji Tandon, participated. The party had nothing to do with the incident and the Opposition parties were trying to blow up the issue, he said.
