BANGALORE, APRIL 14. The Jagjivan Ram Nagar police have arrested five persons on charges of murdering two brothers, both Congress supporters, at Padarayanapura on Tuesday. The police gave the names of the arrested as Anwar Pasha, Sadiq Pasha, Akbar Pasha, Siraj Pasha, and Imran Pasha, all residents of Padaraynapura. Arief Pasha, former Padarayanapura corporator, his son, Imran, and brother, Farooq, were still at large, the police said. After the autopsy, the police handed over the bodies of Amjad and his brother, Ijaz, to their families on Wednesday. There was tension in the area on Wednesday although no untoward incident was reported. Senior police officers, with additional forces, are camping there. According to police, Altaf, against whom there are criminal cases in Jagjivan Ram Nagar Police Station, was with M. Krishnappa, the Congress candidate from the Bangalore South Lok Sabha Constituency, when he was inaugurating an election office at Padarayanapura on Tuesday night. Around 8.30 p.m., a group led by Imran and Farooq allegedly attacked Altaf injuring him. After the police rushed Altaf to a hospital, Imran's group allegedly assaulted Altaf's brothers, Amajd, and Izaz, with swords and knives and killed them, the police said. Arief Pasha, who was in the Janata Dal (Secular), had joined the Congress along with the former minister, V. Somanna. Padarayanapura is part of the Binnypet Assembly Constituency from where Mr. Somanna is contesting as the Congress candidate. Meanwhile, the Janata Dal (Secular) candidate from Binnypet and former police officer, Abdul Azeem, organised a peace meeting near the Vijayanagar Bus Stand on Wednesday.
`No differences'
Our Special Correspondent reports:
Mr. Krishnappa and Mr. Somanna have denied any role in the death of two party workers at Padarayanapura in the Jagjivanramnagar Police Station limits on Tuesday night.
The two candidates told presspersons on Wednesday that enmity between the two groups involved was the reason for the deaths.
"There is no party politics in the issue. They are Congress workers and not our personal followers," the Congress candidates said.
They condemned the incident and said there were no differences or groupism between them. They were campaigning together in the constituency everyday. The party would take action against those responsible for the incident, Mr. Somanna and Mr. Krishnappa said.
