Bellary
By Our Staff Correspondent
BELLARY, APRIL 15. Krishna Chakraborthi, central committee member of the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI), has termed "undemocratic" the statement of the Prime Minister, A.B. Vajpayee, in Bangalore advocating a political system where only major political parties exist to ensure stability and continuity. Addressing presspersons here today, Mr. Chakraborthi said the two-party system was nothing but fascism under the cover of democracy. He said it was a conspiracy of the capitalist class to establish a two-party system that existed in some countries. Mr. Chakraborthi reminded the Prime Minister that his party was in power because of the help of smaller parties. He wondered why the Election Commission was not taking cognisance of such statements. He came down on major political parties, especially the BJP, for raking up irrelevant issues and ignoring important issues such as poverty, price rise, providing drinking water, farmers' deaths, growing unemployment due to industries becoming sick, and disinvestment of public sector undertakings (PSUs). Mr. Chakraborthi said a majority of the problems facing the country was mainly because of globalisation. The impact of globalisation was such that about nine lakh bank employees would not only lose their jobs but the posts themselves would be abolished. This would be implemented in LIC, Railways, and PSUs. He said the SUCI had fielded candidates for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections and appealed to the people to support them. Amarnath, SUCI leader from Andhra Pradesh, Somashekar, SUCI candidate for the Bellary Lok Sabha seat, Manjula, SUCI candidate for the Bellary City Assembly seat, and Ramanjinappa, district general secretary of the SUCI, were among those present.
