Ten Sports asked to file contract documents on cricket series
By Our Legal Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
APRIL 15.
The Supreme Court today asked Ten Sports to file documents relating to its contract with various parties for the telecast of the ongoing India-Pakistan cricket series for proper adjudication of the case.
A three-Judge Bench comprising the Chief Justice V.N. Khare, Justice Santosh N. Hegde and Justice S.H. Kapadia gave this direction on an application filed by Prasar Bharati seeking such a direction.
The Attorney-General, Soli Sorabjee, submitted that details of the additional revenue, the Dubai-based channel generated by putting its live feed of the matches on Doordarshan, were necessary to calculate the losses suffered by the parties.
Senior counsel, Kapil Sibal, appearing for Ten Sports, said whatever documents that could be submitted would be given.
Senior counsel, Harish Salve, appearing for Modi Entertainment Network, which holds the exclusive telecast rights of the matches, wanted appointment of arbitrators to quantify damages due to it. The Bench, while posting the case for further hearing on May 3, granted time to the parties till then to file the documents and replies if any.
