Warm welcome to Advani after yatra

By Mandira Nayar

NEW DELHI, APRIL 15. It was a colourful "homecoming" for the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, today. With loud drums, firecrackers and a sea of saffron flags, the Bharatiya Janata Party supporters and senior leaders gathered outside the Delhi airport to welcome him after a 33-day-long "Bharat Uday Yatra" which culminated at Puri on Wednesday.

A three-hour-long wait in the sun did not dampen the spirit of the crowd that chanted "BJP zindabad'' and waved the party flags as Mr. Advani walked out of the terminal.

Speaking briefly to the media before being ushered into his car, Mr. Advani said: "I am very grateful to my supporters in Delhi who have come here to welcome me so warmly and with such an affection. I have been on many yatras, but I have learnt a lot from this one. I got more than what I expected from it when I set out. I am satisfied.''
