Kottayam boys enter final

KURIANOOR, APRIL 15. Kottayam boys and Kannur girls moved into the finals of the 31st State sub-junior basketball championship at the MTHS floodlit courts here on Thursday.

Kottayam overcame a slow start to defeat Thrissur 45-26 to enter the final in boys' section. It trailed 7-12 at the end of the first quarter but Anandu Sugunan and Victor Jose struck a purple patch to help Kottayam turn the tables on its rival. In the girls' semifinal, Kannur came back strongly in the second half to beat Thiruvananthapuram 29-26.

The results (semifinals):

Boys: Kottayam 45 (Anandu Sugunan 18, Victor Jose 13) bt Thrissur 26 (Arjun Krishna 12); Quarterfinals: Kottayam 24 (Victor 10) bt Ernakulam 20; Malappuram 33 (Basil Philip 12) bt Alappuzha 17; Kannur 37 bt Kasargode 9; Thrissur 24 bt Thiruvananthapuram 15.

Girls: Kannur 29 bt Thiruvananthapuram 26; Quarterfinals: Kozhikode 29 bt Ernakulam 8; Kannur 24 bt Thrissur 5.
