Guntur

GUNTUR, APRIL 15. The TDP candidate for the Duggirala Assembly constituency, Chandu Sambasiva Rao, opines that his registration as a voter in Hyderabad was as per the requirement/provisions and that there was no doubt over that. When contacted by The Hindu on Thursday, he said that he had come to India on March 24 and had registered himself as a voter in Hyderabad before the March 31 deadline and had only obtained an extract on April 6 for filing of nomination from Duggirala constituency. The extract was not required prior to that date as the candidature of Ms. Venigalla Jayashree was finalised by the party. Only when his name was finalised, he had taken the extract and said that his lawyer had got the provisions clarified with the Election Officer in Hyderabad and his registration as a voter was as per requirement. "The poll campaign began a bit late, but the response is excellent with a number of people wanting a change as they are fed up with the former MLA, Gudibandi Venkata Reddy,'' said Mr. Sambasiva Rao. He perceives his experience as a consultant to the Government of the US as his strength in opposing the former MLA.
