Showers likely

CHENNAI, APRIL 16. There is a possibility of showers or thundershowers in some areas during evening or night on Saturday.

On Friday, Nungambakkam recorded a maximum of 37.4 degree Celsius and a minimum of 28.3 degrees. Meenambakkam recorded a maximum of 39.2 degrees and a minimum of 28.2 degree Celsius. The humidity at Nungambakkam was 67 per cent and at Meenambakkam it was 63 per cent.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended on April 18 in parts of Sowcarpet, Mannady, Park Town and Flower Bazaar between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. for maintenance work.

Air pollution

The Particulate Matter in the ambient air at T.Nagar intersection was 264 microgram per cubic metre (mcg/cm) and 203 mcg/cm at Kilpauk intersection above the permissible limit of 200 mcg/cm.

The oxides of sodium and nitrogen were below the permissible limit at both the areas. This 24-hour survey was conducted on April 15 under the city's ambient air quality monitoring programme by the TN Pollution Control Board.

First aid classes

St. John Ambulance - Tamil Nadu chapter will conduct first aid classes from April 26 onwards in batches. Those interested can contact the organisation to join in the course that is on till June at Mayor V.R. Ramanathan Road, Chetpet. Ph: 28194630 or 28191707.

Free eye camp

A free eye screening camp will be conducted at Gremaltes Hospital, Shenoy Nagar, between 7-30 a.m. and 11 a.m. on Saturday. The camp is being conducted in association with East Shenoy Nagar Residents' Welfare Association. For further details, contact the hospital at 2644 3411.

Summer camp

M.T.S. Academy will conduct a month-long summer camp for students from Standard VI to Standard X in May. The last date for registering in the camp, which will include sessions on personality development and histrionic talents, is April 28.

About 130 units of blood were collected at a blood donation camp organised by Lions Club of Elliots Beach, last week.

The BVSN Centre for special children, a unit of Public Health Centre, celebrated annual day last week. The chairman of Inner Wheel District 323, Radha Ramesh, commended the efforts of the children who displayed their talents through cultural programmes and the products they made.
