India beats South Africa
CANBERRA,
APRIL 17.
Gagan Ajit Singh and Deepak Thakur scored two goals each as India came from 4-2 down in the second half to beat South Africa 6-4 in the 4 Nations Challenge field hockey tournament here on Saturday.
Australia shut out Malaysia 9-0 in the other match. Australia has a 3-0 record after three rounds while India improved to 2-1. Malaysia is 1-2 and South Africa lost all three matches. India will play Australia in Sunday's first-place final.
Singh scored in the 10th and 65th minutes while Thakur's goals were just seven minutes apart midway through the second half. Arjun Halappa and Prabhjot Singh also scored for India.
Greg Nicol led South Africa with two goals.
Australia led 3-0 at halftime and scored six more goals after the break, the last four in a 10-minute blitz in the final quarter. Eight of the nine scores were field goals with the other coming from a 38-minute penalty corner converted by Nathan Eglington.
