NEW DELHI, APRIL 17. The Vice-President, Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, will present the Rotary India Award 2003, "Caring For The Mentally Challenged'', at a special function at the Chinmaya Mission here on April 19. This year, the award has been bagged by a non-government organisation -- Manovikas Kendra Rehabilitation and Research Institute for the Handicapped, Kolkata -- while the commendation award has been given to Action for Autism (AFA), New Delhi. The selection was made by a jury presided over by the former Chief Justice of India and present Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission, A. S. Anand. As many as 98 nominations were received by the Trust from all over the country. Other members of the jury were the Chairperson of the National Trust, Aloka Guha, and former Ambassador to the United States, Abid Hussain. Manovikas Kendra Rehabilitation and Research Institute for the Handicapped is a voluntary organisation doing path-breaking work in Kolkata.
