Five file papers

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, APRIL 17 . With Saturday being generally considered inauspicious, only five candidates filed their nomination papers today for the seven Lok Sabha seats in the Capital.

Filing of nominations is expected to pick up next week. April 23 is the last day of filing of nomination papers.

Meanwhile, the Chief Electoral Officer for Delhi, Arun Goyal, reviewed the preparations for the Lok Sabha polls in the Capital. He directed officials of the various civic agencies including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to ensure that there was no defacement of public property by the political parties and candidates in any part of the Capital.

Except for the paid sites, putting up of banners, hoardings, and posters would not be allowed, he said, adding that action would be initiated against those found violating the law.

In fact, the political parties, the candidates and printers and publishers of election publicity related material have now started sending copies of posters, banners and other material to the Election Commission.

As per Section 127A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, printer and publisher has to compulsory send three copies of the publicity material to the Election Commission along with the prescribed format. Printers of the Capital too have been sending the publicity material within three days of the printing, said a senior official.
