This Day That Age
Prime Minister Nehru and the Vice-President, Dr. S. Radhakrishnan, paid a visit to the famous Sri Nataraja temple in Chidambaram on April 18. Leaving Annamalainagar in an open car, the Prime Minister drove to Chidambaram, acknowledging en route the greetings and cheerings of the people, who included a large number of rural folk from the neighbouring villages. Before entering the temple, Mr. Nehru motored through the four car streets, on either side of which the people had filed up in rows, ten to 15 deep. At the entrance, the Podu Dikshitars of the temple received the Prime Minister and the Vice-President with purnakumbam and temple honours. Mr. Nehru was garlanded by Mr. V.V. Kalsansami Dikshitar, Secretary of Podu Dikshitars, while Dr. Radhakrishnan was presented with a garland by Mr. V.V. Swarnavenkatesa Dikshitar.
