NAGAPATTINAM, APRIL 18. The Collector, M. Veera Shanmugha Moni, has warned of legal action against the cable television operators, if they relay uncertified election campaign advertisements. The equipment used for relay of uncertified advertisement will be seized, he said in an official release here. The Collector said the candidates aspiring to use the cable networks for canvassing should approach the returning officer and obtain necessary certificate as directed by the Election Commission. They should also submit the production and broadcasting charges incurred for the relay of such advertisements at the time of application. The campaign materials should be submitted for review, and a fresh certificate should be obtained within 24 hours from the time of objection, if any, received by the returning officer from the Opposition parties or other candidates over the subject of the material, he said.
Pudukottai
Around 75 per cent of the voters in Pudukottai district have been issued voter identity cards, according to an official release. Those in possession of the cards should produce them while exercising their franchise. Those who had not received the cards could produce the documents prescribed by the Election Commission India, such as passports, driving licences, Income Tax Identity (PAN) cards, ration cards issued before March 31, 2004, railway identification cards, freedom fighter identity cards, arms licences and the physically handicap certificates issued before March 31, 2004.
