By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, APRIL 18. A couple along with three of their accomplices, who allegedly ran a bogus finance to cheat hundreds of people from Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh on the pretext of providing them loans without any surety or guarantor, have been arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Crime Branch.

The EOW received a complaint that a couple - Abhayvir Batra and Sumita, --- had been cheating people on the pretext of providing them loans through their firm called Merilyine Fund Management Consultancy at Janakpuri in West Delhi. Acting on the complaint, the police mounted a raid at the Janakpuri office and arrested Dinesh, Neelam and Jitender. Hundreds of loan applications were recovered from the office, revealing that the accused had cheated people of money to the tune of lakhs of rupees. While Abhayvir and Sumita kept evading arrest and applied for anticipatory bail, which was dismissed, the police mounted several raids and finally arrested them from a restaurant at Khatauli in Uttar Pradesh where they had stopped to have breakfast while on way to Hardwar.

The police said Abhayvir was involved in five others registered and Hari Nagar and Vasant Kunj police stations. During interrogation, they disclosed that they had purchased properties in Punjab and Delhi from the money they extracted from the loan seekers. Further investigations into the involvements are on.
