Police recover arms near Mufti rally venue
By Shujaat Bukhari
SRINAGAR,
APRIL 18.
Police today apparently foiled an attempt by militants to attack a rally addressed by the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, on the last day of campaigning for the Baramulla parliamentary constituency in Bandipore.
Mr. Sayeed later told the meeting that separatists had no moral right to call for a boycott. Police said that on specific information one AK rifle, a few grenades and seven AK 47 magazines were recovered from a computer shop just 100 metres away from the venue of the rally organised by the People's Democratic Party (PDP) at Bandipore, around 60 km from here.
The arms and ammunition, they said, were possibly left by a suspected militant, who was obviously unnerved by the heavy presence of police and paramilitary personnel.
The shop was sealed and a manhunt to nab the militant was launched.
