`BJP campaign against Sonia helping Congress'

By Our Staff Reporter

VISAKHAPATNAM, APRIL 18. The AICC secretary, T. Subbarami Reddy, on Sunday claimed that the `highly personalised campaign' of the Bharatiya Janata Party against the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi, was proving an advantage for the Congress.

Addressing a press conference jointly with the film actress of yesteryears, Vanisree, who is campaigning for the Congress, Mr. Reddy said "People are fed up with the BJP's attack on Ms.Gandhi. People are not taking any of the charges against her seriously and are sympathising with her.'' Mr. Reddy said that it was up to the people and not the BJP "to decide who should be the Prime Minister.'' Ms Vanisree chipped in by giving the status of a `daughter-in-law' to Ms. Gandhi and describing her as one who had inherited the political legacy of the Nehru-Gandhi family.

Mr. Reddy said the Congress wrapped up its campaign in the first phase on a confident note given the people's overwhelming response and its electoral alliance with the Communist parties and the TRS. In north coastal Andhra, the Congress was poised to break the Telugu Desam Party's hold, he added.
