Kollam
By Our Staff Reporter
KOLLAM, APRIL 19. The BSNL Employees Union has protested against the recent trend in the BSNL not to absorb the dependents of those employees dying in harness. At a press conference here today the union general secretary, V.A.N. Namboodiri, said that in Kollam district alone there were 29 such dependents expecting the BSNL to be compassionate towards them. He said that it was after the moves to privatise the BSNL that such welfare-oriented measures were being systematically dropped. The Government moves to introduce the voluntary retirement scheme and the compulsory retirement scheme in the BSNL cannot be justified, he said. As recruitments have been stopped, many popular services have been wound up under the guise of staff shortage.
