THRISSUR, APRIL 19. A group of cultural and social organisations here have teamed up to organise a meeting to create awareness among the people against the exploitation of water by the multi national companies and on the need for conserving water. The organisers of the programme told reporters here today 13 cultural groups in the district, including the Kerala Sastra Sahitya Parishad, Janasamskara, Jananeethi, Purogamana Kala-Sahitya Sangham and the Costford have formed a joint committee to conduct the meeting. It will discuss the political, social, economical, cultural and biological dimensions of the people's right over water. `Water is my birth right' is the theme for the cultural meeting, which will be addressed by several socio-cultural personalities like Sara Joseph, Vaisakhan, C. R. Neelakandan and the leaders of Plachimada Agitation Samithi. "The policies of Government and the market forces, looking only for profit are responsible for the widespread water crisis. To protect the water sources and the socially controlled water distribution system people's initiatives and interventions must grow,'' the organisers said. Ravunni, N. R. Gramaprakash, George Pulikuthiyel and Gopikrishnan addressed the reporters.
