Mainly clear sky forecast

NEW DELHI APRIL 19. The weatherman has forecast a mainly clear sky for the Capital on Tuesday. However, it might become partly cloudy by afternoon, he warned. The maximum temperature would hover around 39 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Monday were 40.1 and 24.8 degrees Celsius, while Palam recorded 41 and 23.2 degree Celsius respectively. The maximum humidity recorded at Safdarjung was 39 and 43 per cent at Palam, while the minimum humidity was 13 and 12 per cent respectively.

Prostitution racket busted

NEW DELHI APRIL 19. Five men and three women were arrested from a Vasant Kunj farmhouse in South-West Delhi today on charges of running a prostitution racket. The police recovered Rs. 1.16 lakhs in cash, six mobile phones, two Cielo and a Toyota from their possession. The main accused is still absconding.

Acting on a tip-off that a prostitution racket was being run from a farmhouse "Surya Enterprises" at Bhawani Kunj on Church Road, the police mounted a raid and arrested Santosh, Saurav, Raju, Rohit Kumar Bisht and Hare Ram, and three sex-workers.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that one Ankit Bisht had been running the racket that supplied sex-workers to five-star hotels across the Capital. Santosh used to strike almost all the deals on his behalf and charged Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000 per sex-worker.

Undertrial found dead

NEW DELHI APRIL 19. An undertrail at Tihar Jail was found dead today under mysterious circumstances.

The incident is said to occurred, when Vijay (aged 24) reportedly went to the toilet at around 10-30 a.m and did not emerge from inside for a while. Suspecting something was wrong; the police broke the door and found him lying on the floor with a torn towel tied around his neck. He was rushed to the hospital at the jail, but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Vijay was a resident of Patpatgunj and was booked for demanding dowry.

Robbed of cash, jewellery

NEW DELHI APRIL 19. Three armed young men barged into the house of a garment exporter and robbed the family of cash and jewellery at Kalkaji in South Delhi today.

According to the police, Arti Nagpal, wife of Om Nagpal, a resident of M-Block Kalkaji, was on the ground floor of the house along with 18-year-old domestic help, Raju, when three persons entered the house in the afternoon. At the time, Om had left for his factory in Faridabad, Haryana, while another servant was taking a bath on the third floor.

The intruders, wielding country-made revolvers and knives, locked up Raju in a room and forced Ms. Nagpal to part with the keys. They then opened the almirah and took away heavy amount of jewellery, along with Rs. 12,000 in cash. They also took away some other items from the house.

Maid found hanging

NEW DELHI APRIL 19. A 19-year-old maid allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling in her employer's house at Sarita Vihar in South Delhi today. According to the police, Rita, who was working as a permanent housemaid in the house of Rajnish Kohli, a resident of E-Block Sarita Vihar and a manager in a private company, was found hanging from the ceiling fan around 2-30 p.m.

The police said Rajnish and his wife had left for work early in the day and his two children had gone to school. When one of them returned in the afternoon, there was no response to his knocks. He then informed his father who came back from work. Mr. Kohli broke open the door only to find Rita hanging. No suicide note was recovered from the spot.
