This Day That Age
Mr. Georgi Malenkov, Soviet Prime Minister, attended on April 20 the first session of the Supreme Soviet to be held since the March 14 elections. The 708 assembled deputies rose to their feet to clap as Mr. Malenkov walked to his place on the dais in the Kremlin Grand Palace in Moscow. He wore a dark blue Communist Party tunic buttoned to the neck. The President, Mr. Klimenti Voroshillov, Mr. Vyacheslav Molotov, Soviet Foreign Minister, and the Party Secretary, Mr. Nikita Khrushchev, sat alongside the Prime Minister at the meeting. The Supreme Soviet adopted a six-point agenda, including the presentation of the 1954 budget. The Council of Nationalities, the 639-member Second Chamber, met an hour later. President Voroshillov was the first of the Government leaders to enter the brightly lit hall at the opening of the session. He was followed by Mr. Malenkov, Mr. Molotov and Mr. Khrushchev.
