Letters to the Editor
Sir, I do not understand the media hype over the elections. Everyone has realised the insincerity of election promises. The poor crowds at political rallies only show that they have their own lives to live. After all they have to live up to the `India shining' image!
Ganesh C. Prabhu,
Sir, The Opposition, in its bid to attack the BJP-led NDA, is increasingly projecting India as a loser on all fronts. India is really not such a loser. Look around the world. Greeks cannot stand Turks so a tiny island, Cyprus, is divided. Jews and Muslims cannot co-exist, Catholics cannot live with Protestants, Sunnis cannot stand the Shias ... and so on. Here we are, one billion people crowded in an area one-third the size of the U.S., and pulling along by and large.
Anand & Swati Sriram,
Sir, There is a heated debate over the credibility of film personalities entering politics. It is a fact that they have a fan following but that is not enough. Whether these stars, who live luxurious lives, can relate to the misery of the poor is to be seen. But one wonders how the urge to serve the people has sprung up all of a sudden in the minds of these film stars.
Soumya S. Sekhar,
