Managing crowds

Sir, — This is with reference to the recent stampede in Lucknow and the utter chaos that prevailed at the airport when the victorious Indian cricket team returned to India. At both venues the crowds should have been expected. Proper communication between organisers and those who regulate the crowds is important to prevent loss of life and other untoward incidents at huge gatherings.
