ANANTAPUR, APRIL 20. The politburo member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Sitaram Yechuri, has observed that the demand for separate States is not the solution to backwardness. Instead, development of such regions with special attention is the remedy. Reacting to a question on the demand for separate statehood for Telangana Mr. Yechuri warned at a press conference here today that any effort to disturb the present set-up was dangerous and would lead to social tensions. The linguistic-based reorganisation of States was done based on certain principles and it stood good even today. The experience of separate statehood was seen in the Northeast, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa. But, the fact was that all such newly formed States were surviving at the mercy of the Centre.
