Poll arrangements reviewed

KARUR, APRIL 20 . The election observers for the Karur constituency, Anil Chandra Punetha and Bijay Chandro Jena (general) and Sanjay Awasthi (expenditure), today held discussions with officials and representatives of political parties here today.

The Collector, P. Annamalai, called upon the parties to adhere to the code of conduct laid down by the Election Commission.

The Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Mittal, was present .

In an official release, Mr. Annamalai said the observers would camp at the PWD Project guesthouse in the town. The people could contact them over phone 04324-255200 and fax their complaints to 04324-255300. They could also contact Mr. Punetha over mobile phone (94433 71847), Mr. Bijay Chandro Jena (94433 71846) and Mr. Sanjay Awasthi (94433 71848).

The election section in the Collectorate would have the phone, 04324-257511, and fax, 04324-257800.

Perambalur

The observers for the Perambalur (reserved) constituency, Kusumjit Sidhu (general) and Ajay Dixit (expenditure) held discussions with the officials on the arrangements made for the elections. The Collector, S. Natarajan, who is also the Returning Officer, the Superintendent of Police, P.C. Thenmozhi, and the District Revenue Officer, V. Krishnamurthy, explained the arrangements to the observers.

Later, accompanied by officials, the observers visited the taluk office at Kunnam, where they inspected the electronic voting machines (EVMs).

In an official release, the Collector said Ms. Kusumjit Sidhu would camp at the TWAD Board guesthouse, while Mr. Ajay Dixit would stay at the panchayat union guesthouse. Complaint boxes had been installed at these places for voters and the people to submit their complaints.

He said Ms. Sidhu could be contacted over mobile phone (94433-67317) and Mr. Dixit (98426-99227).
