MADURAI, APRIL 20. The Janata Party president, Subramanian Swamy, today urged the District Collector and returning officer for the Madurai Lok Sabha constituency to register "a criminal case" against the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam candidate, A. K. Bose, for the "illegal publicity" made during yesterday's visit here by the party general secretary, Jayalalithaa. Addressing mediapersons here, he said all hoardings, flags and posters (put up for the visit) at unauthorised places should be pulled down and the cost charged to the AIADMK candidate's account. The expenses of these materials should also be included in his account. Dr. Swamy said he would take up the issue with the Election Commission and wanted the Collector to file a case against Mr. Bose under Section 171 (C) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 32 of the Representation of the People Act. The Janata Party leader wanted the Chief Minister to take action against her partymen "for this crass, crude, vulgar and illegal display" of "moneypower". If the Collector did not file a case, he would file a public interest litigation under Section 120 of the IPC against the returning officer "to enforce the law". Dr. Swamy said he would file his nomination for the Madurai seat on April 23. He claimed that thousands of cadres from villages in Madurai district were quitting the AIADMK and joining the Janata Party.
