BANGALORE, APRIL 21. Nikhil Patwardhan's stroke filled century (101 not out) put Western Railway in the driving seat in the final of the all-India inter-Railway cricket tournament on the opening day at the RWF ground. Western Railway had compiled 305 for eight against Eastern Railway when bad light stopped play at 3.45 p.m. Western Railway opted to bat first. Sanjay Bangar, who was in good nick, made 70 with eight hits to the ropes. Amit Pagnis rattled up a quick fire 58 with 11 boundaries before Patwardhan too centre stage. There were nine boundaries in Patwardhan's knock. For Eastern Railway, M. Pradeep picked up three wickets. In the losing semifinalists' match at the Air Force ground, Milind Tamahane played a lone hand for Central Railway scoring 97 of the 146 that his side totalled. He hit ten fours and a six.
Raghunath picked up three wickets for Southern Railway while Rajith chipped in with two. Southern Railway was off to a bad start losing two quick wickets with only 22 on the board.
The scores:
Western Railway 305 for eight in 79 overs (Sanjay Bangar 70, Amit Pagnis 58, Nikhil Patwardhan 101 n.o., M. Pradeep three for 86) vs Eastern Railway.
Losing semifinalists match: Central Railway 146 in 60 overs (Milind Tamahane 97, Raghunath three for 53) vs Southern Railway 22 for two.
