Tips for a chequered career

A one-day workshop on career development in information technology was conducted by the Department of Computer Applications, Fatima College, Madurai, recently.

Students from various colleges were explained about the job opportunities and placements in the IT sector. P. Eugene Xavier, Manager, Education and Research, Infosys Technologies, Chennai, presided over the workshop and briefed about education and research in information technology. He gave tips on research projects, self-employment etc. In another session, Vijayalakshmi Stephen, director, Vijayalakshmi Hitech Solutions, Madurai, enriched the students on placement and entrepreneurship.

Students of Sri Meenakshi Government College for Women, Madurai, have the grit to win. They are successful in sports making a mark at university-level. They were both players and captains for the teams that represented the Madurai Kamaraj University in volleyball, kabaddi, kho-kho, table tennis and hockey.

The college also won the S.F.R. Cup with 22 points, which is also a rolling cup of the university. The overall championship was also bagged by them with 23 points, says a beaming R. Rohini Devi, college coordinator, youth programmes.

Three students — Dhanalakshmi ,Meenakshi and Ponnarulu — made the college proud during the academic year 2003-04, representing Tamil Nadu in the national meet.

The 36th College Day and Sports Day of the M.S.S.Wakf Board College in Madurai was celebrated on March 30 with the former Vice-Chancellor of the Madurai Kamaraj University, M. Salihu, presiding over the function.

The chief guest, Madurai Aadheenam, in his address stressed that `unity of hearts' was more important than unity of religions.

He exhorted the students to strive hard for creating religious and social harmony and to memorise a `Thirukkural' couplet every day.

G.Gulam Usman Nadeem, principal in-charge, read out the college annual report while M. Amanullah, correspondent and secretary, welcomed the gathering. A. Basheer Ahamed, head, Tamil Department, proposed a vote of thanks.

Live and let live. This was the message given to students at the 38th College Day celebrations of the Saraswathi Narayanan College, Madurai, recently. The words came from Swami Kamalatmananda, Head, Sri Ramakrishna Mutt, Madurai, who urged the youngsters to live well and see that others also lived well.

The swamij made a stress on improving the power of concentration for realising the talents.

N. Thiagarajan, secretary, presided over the function. R. Srinivasan, principal, presented the annual report. Several entertainment programmes marked the event.
