Lalitha Kumaramangalam files papers in Pondy

PONDICHERRY, APRIL 21. The Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for the Pondicherry Lok Sabha seat, Lalitha Kumaramangalam, today filed her nomination before the returning officer, V. Candavelou.

Mr. Candavelou told reporters that four sets of papers proposing Mrs Kumaramangalam's candidature were filed by the two AIADMK legislators, A. Anbalagan and A Kasilingam, the BJP legislator, A.M. Krishnamoorthy, and the president of the Pondicherry unit of the party, R. Kesavalu.

Earlier the AIADMK and the BJP volunteers accompanied Mrs. Kumaramangalam when she came in a procession from Ellaipillaichavady to the office of the Returning Officer.The general secretary of the party's state unit, M. Visweswaran, filed his nomination as dummy candidate.

P.R.N. Tirumurugan, former functionary of the Congress at Karaikal, filed papers as an Independent. He is the son of the Congress MLA from Kottuchery (Karaikal), R. Nalamaharajan.

Three more independents also filed nominations today. The last date for filing of nominations is April 23. While scrutiny is scheduled for April 24, the last date for withdrawal is April 26.

A total of six candidates filed their nominations for the Vellore and the Arakkonam Lok Sabha constituencies on Wednesday. A.M.S. Paramasivam (New Justice Party) and G. Sambandan (NJP substitute) filed their papers before A.C. Mohandoss, Collector, and Returning Officer for the Vellore constituency, while S. Sethumadhavan (Makkal Tamil Desam), G. Janardhanan (MTD substitute), A.Velu (Independent) and S. Arunkumar (Republican Party of India) filed their papers before K. Kalairajan, District Revenue Officer, and Returning Officer for the Arakkonam constituency.
