PATHANAMTHITTA, APRIL 21. The Assembly Committee on Resolutions and Private Members' Bills, chaired by A. Sujanapal, has directed the District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC) to set up a tourism information centre at Sabarimala. At a sitting of the panel at the Collectorate Conference Hall here today, Mr. Sujanapal stressed the need to promote tourism by providing maximum possible infrastructure facilities in district. The committee called upon the district authorities to take steps to ensure foolproof protection of Thrikkakkudi Cave Temple at Kaviyoor. The executive engineer of the Public Works Department, Krishnakumar, apprised the panel that the department had completed the survey on the proposed Achenkoil-Vandipperiyar Road, which would be a major boost to the tourism industry. The Water Resources Department informed the committee that the work on the proposed small hydro-electric project at Perunthenaruvi would begin in November. The committee maintained that Perunthenaruvi with its scenic beauty and waterfalls had much tourism potential and the DTPC should initiate eco-friendly projects to tap the potential. The Forest Department sources apprised the panel that department had launched an eco-project based at the elephant camp at Konni. The committee was told that the construction of the pilgrim shelters at Malayalappuzha was progressing fast.The proposed Pampa Action Plan will be launched soon and the first phase of the project would be completed in a year, according to the Water Resources Department. The commite member, C. Moideenkutty, the Additional Director of Tourism Department, S. Sahadevan, and the Additional District Magistrate, N. Vijayan, were among those who attended the sitting.
