I need support of Muslims, says Vajpayee

NEW DELHI, APRIL 21. Asking Muslims not to nurse a feeling of being left out, the Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, said today that there should be no attempts to divide the minority community without whose support the country could not progress.

``I need their support not because of elections but because I have been striving for years to ensure that Hindus and Muslims in the country live together, foster brotherhood, help each other and make each other secure so that together they could take the country forward," he told a group of Muslim leaders who came to extend their support to him.

Asserting that he had not been making these efforts with an eye on elections or for political advantage, he told Muslim leaders belonging to the `Atal Bihari Vajpayee Himayat Committee' that he was aware that they felt that there should be brotherhood in the country.

There should not only be justice for Muslims but it should also be visible, he added.
