Education and career fair from May 19

INDIA EDUCATION and Career 2004, an exclusive exhibition focussed on education and career opportunities, has been organised at the National Science Seminar Complex, Indian Institute of Science premises, from May 19 to 21. The event is expected to bring together educational, training and career organisations, both in public and private sectors.

The event, according to the organisers, is dedicated to student recruitment, training and career counselling, and is aimed at the prospective undergraduate and graduate students. School and college students, executives, professionals and research scholars, education portals offering online courses, education councils and non-governmental organisations are likely to turn up for the event.

The fair has been strategically timed after the Common Entrance Test (CET) examinations, which attracts students from across the country. Students can get information on courses and careers such as Advertising, Journalism, Business Management, Marketing and Sales, Foreign Languages, Hotel Management, Medical Science, Travel and Tourism, Fashion Designing, Engineering, Interior Designing and Engineering and Medical courses, both at the national and international levels. THE P.E.S. Institute of Technology has organised "Aatmatrisha '04," its annual literary, cultural and technical festival on April 23 and 24.

Besides the regular competitive events, the festival will feature a live performance by the Western fusion band "Antaragni."

Last year, over 60 engineering and degree colleges had turned up for the event, including the big ones such as the Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai, the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, and the National Law School of India University. Among the events lined up were debates, Western and Eastern music contests, and quizzes, attracting over 2,600 contestants.

THE R.N.S. Institute of Technology bagged the overall trophy at "Anaadyanta 2004," the inter-collegiate cultural fest organised by the City-based Nitte Institute of Technology recently.

Twenty engineering colleges took part in the event. R.T. Rama, noted comedian and actress, inaugurated the event. She is the professor and head of the Bangalore University Department of Performing Arts.

THE DR. B.R. Ambedkar Study and Research Centre attached to the Bangalore University recently celebrated the 113th birth anniversary of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar by organising an in-house consultation on "Ambedkar Centre: New direction, new initiatives."

The university Syndicate member, M.S. Basavaraju, urged Dalit teachers to take up the responsibility of providing comprehensive education to Dalit students and help them develop their personality, communication skills, and general knowledge.

Students and teachers, who took part in the consultation, suggested starting of diploma or certificate courses in Ambedkar Studies, field surveys and investigative research on social issues, international and national seminars and publication of a newsletter on Dr. Ambedkar.
