MUMBAI, APRIL 22. Holder Salwan High School edged out Santhome High School by three runs to win a pulsating semifinal of the Parle inter-city Champions Trophy boys under-17 cricket tournament on Thursday. The second semifinal between Bangalore's Frank Anthony Public School and Amritsar's DAV School will be played on Friday. The Delhi boys, electing to bat at the Cricket Club of India, struggled to put runs on board in the face of tight bowling and only plucky batting by the lower order helped it raise 191 in 50 overs, losing eight wickets in the process. Number seven batsman Rohit Saini, Salwan's top scorer, remained unbeaten on a patient 64 off 117 balls, putting on 70 in an eighth-wicket stand with Gurpreet Singh (36 off 45 balls). Santhome's left-arm bowler D.R. Anbuezhil (three for 35) was chief wicket-taker. The Chennai boys got off to a flying start, H. Gopinath (58) and E. Aswin (29) putting on 75 runs for the second wicket. However, the other batsmen failed to keep momentum going and the side totalled 188 for eight in its allotted 50 overs, in face of determined bowling by the Delhi side, aided by sluggish running between wickets by batsmen. Narender Singh picked up three for 39 while Rohit Saini picked up the `man of match' award.
