BELLARY, APRIL 22. Re-polling, which was held in three polling stations in Bellary, Sirguppa, and Sandur Assembly segments today, was peaceful. The police had made elaborate security arrangements. An average polling percentage of 65.29 was recorded in the three booths. Re-polling had to be held in polling booth no. 162 in Bellary city for the Assembly segment when poll officials replaced a faulty electronic voting machine (EVM) pertaining to the Kurgodu Assembly segment. The fault as noticed by a voter and the polling was stopped. Of the total 1,119 voters, 667 exercised their franchise, taking the percentage to 59.60. In view of the rigging at Tekkalakota (Sirguppa Assembly seat) and damage to EVMs at Sushilnagar (Sandur Assembly seat), re-polling was ordered for both the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections. As many as 819 of the total 1,447, and 941 of the total 1,181 voters cast their votes in the respective polling booths.
Chitradurga
Our Chitrdurga Staff Correspondent reports: Re-polling in the seven polling stations in the Holalkere Assembly Constituency today was peaceful. A polling percentage of 60.33 was recorded. The re-polling was ordered when the polling process was obstructed at Chikkajajur by a mob on Tuesday. The police burst teargas shells to disburse the mob. Miscreants damaged electronic voting machines. Polling could not continue in four booths after the incidents.
Heavy police protection was provided at all booths to ensure the smooth conduct of re-polling.
Koppal
Our Raichur Staff Correspondent reports:
A polling percentage of 75.12 per cent was registered at Sortur (for the Koppal Lok Sabha seat) in the Mundargi Assembly segment where repolling was held in five booths today. The re-polling was peaceful.
Re-polling (for the Lok Sabha seat) was held in one booth in Gangavathi. The polling percentage was 48.70. Re-polling was held in three booths in the Kanakagiri Assembly segment where 47 per cent polling was registered at Hulihyder (for the Lok Sabha seat), 71.68 per cent at Kanakagiri (for the Assembly segment), and 67 per cent at Kalmangi (Lok Sabha seat).
