CHENNAI, APRIL 22. The Vanniyar Sangam has submitted to the Election Commission (EC), the Home Secretary and the Director-General of Police a memorandum on violence allegedly indulged in by the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), the president, A.K. Natarajan, told reporters here today. The Sangam had also submitted a list of the names of PMK activists, who indulged in violence, demanding action against them. Condemning the violence at an April 20 public meeting addressed by Dheeran, former PMK president and spokesman of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), at Tindivanam, he demanded ``more positive police action'' to prevent such incidents. The PMK men had been threatening owners of cinema theatres in Vellore district not to screen Rajnikant movies. The cinema houses were warned of ``dire consequences'' if they failed to fall in line, Mr. Natarajan claimed. The Sangam would lodge a complaint with the EC. It would work for the success of the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-BJP alliance in all constitutencies in the State and Pondicherry in the Lok Sabha elections. It would launch an intensified campaign along with the fans of Rajnikant in the six constituencies, where the PMK is contesting.
