Congress alleges vilification campaign

By Our Staff Correspondent

MADIKERI, APRIL 23. M.K. Aravind, general secretary of the Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee, on Friday criticised the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Janata Dal (Secular), and other political parties in Kodagu of carrying out a vilification campaign against the Congress candidates.

Mr. Aravind told presspersons here that the other Opposition parties had been making unwarranted allegations against the Congress and its candidates as they were unable to stomach the achievements of the S.M. Krishna Government. He criticised D.S. Madappa of the Janata Dal (S), who as the BJP candidate had opposed the Muslims in the district during Ayodhya crisis. Mr. Madappa had no moral right to seek Muslim votes in Madikeri. He had been misleading the people about Palur incidents (temple desecration) asking them not to vote for the Congress.

Mr. Aravind questioned the propriety of the BJP, which was projecting H.N. Ananth Kumar as the future Chief Minister of the State and asked what was the achievement of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance Government in the past five years compared to the Congress rule at the Centre in the past.

Anil Appachu, general secretary of the Kodagu Youth Congress, was present.
