VELLORE, APRIL 23. A total of 89 candidates have filed their nominations for the Vellore, Arakkonam, Vandavasi and Tirupattur in Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts till today, the last day for filing of papers. Forty-two of them filed their nominations today. Former union minister and MDMK deputy general secretary, Gingee Ramachandran, was prominent among those who filed their nominations. He filed his papers before Dheeraj Kumar, Tiruvannamalai Collector, and Returning Officer, for the Vandavasi Lok Sabha constituency. In his affidavit, Mr. Gingee Ramachandran declared that his assets included cash of Rs. 40,000 in his possession, Rs. 60,000 in his wife's possession, bank deposits to the tune of Rs.11,155 in his name, Rs. 43,915 in his wife's account. He owns a car worth Rs. 40,000, his wife has a car worth Rs.45,000. His wife's jewellery, weighing 800 grams, is worth Rs.4.52 lakhs. Hundred grams of jewellery, worth Rs.54,000, each in the possession of his two dependents. His share of agricultural land is valued at Rs.4,81,625 (one-fourth share), agricultural land worth Rs.4,81,625 each, being the one-fourth shares of his two dependents, agricultural land worth Rs.17,80,800 in his wife's name, buildings in his wife's name in Ginjee, Dharmapuri and Chennai totally measuring 14,230 square feet and worth Rs.98.50 lakhs, house in his name, measuring 1370 square feet and worth Rs. one lakh at Aviyur in Ginjee taluk, other assets such as values of claims and interests worth Rs.two lakhs in his name and Rs.4,01,318 in his wife's name. A total of 12 candidates, comprising 10 independents and one each of the Samajwadi Party (P.K. Vatchalabai) and the Republican Party of India (A) S.Arunkumar--filed their nominations before A.C.Mohandoss, Collector and Returning Officer, for the Vellore constituency, while eight candidates, comprising seven independents and one of the Samajwadi Party (R. Mohan) filed their nominations before K. Kalairajan, District Returning Officer and Returning Officer, for the Arakkonam constituency. In Tiruvannamalai, 14 candidates, including 10 independents, two each in MDMK and one each in Janata Dal (U) and Janata Party filed their nominations for the Vandavasi constituency, while eight candidates filed their papers before M. Vallalar, District Revenue Officer, and Returning Officer, for the Tirupattur constituency.
Pondicherry
T. Thanga Kalaimaran, president of the Pondicherry unit of the Bahujan Samaj party (BSP) was among the eight candidates who filed nominations before the District Collector-cum-Returning Officer, V. Candavelou, bringing the total nominations to 26.
Cuddalore
Nine candidates filed their papers for the Cuddalore Parliamentary constituency, six for the Chidambaram seat and seven for the Mangalore Assembly. The candidates are: Cuddalore: M.P. Mannan of Kachirapalayam (Janata Party), M. Dharmalingam (59) of Thandaiyarpettai, Chennai, (Rashtriya Janata Dal), and K. Ravi (35) of Panruti, C. Murugan (37) of Vadakuthu, G. Dhanakodi (40), M. Rajendran (37), P.M. Veerabadran (46) and M. Govindan (40) of Sankarapuram, and P. Vijayakumar (28) of Kallakurichi, all Independents. Chidambaram: Panchal alias Panchal Ambedkar (38) of Neyveli (BJP substitute), K. Kumar (28) of Kachirapalayam (Bahujan Samaj Party), D. Ramalingam (42) of Vridhachalam, G. Ramamurthy (37) of Karuveppalankurichi, S. Periasamy (27) of Vridhachalam, and V. Ponnusamy (48) of Perambalur, all Independents. Mangalore: V. Ganesan (45) of Thittakudi (DMK), K. Bhavani (37) and C. Jayaraman (43) of Thittakudi (DMK substitutes), V. Radha Dhanasekaran (27) of Kilimangalam (Janata Party), P. Durga Devi (25) of Thittakudi (Janata Dal-United), M.R. Viswanathan (22) of E. Keeranur and V. Kolanjinathan (37) of Vashistapuram, Independents. With this the total number of candidates are as follows: Cuddalore - 16, Chidambaram - 16, and Mangalore - 17.
Villupuram
For the Tindivanam Parliamentary constituency, 10 candidates filed their nominations.
Till today as many as 33 nominations had been filed for the constituency.
