MOSCOW, APRIL 23. The foreign ministers of India, Russia and China are to hold two meetings to upgrade their triangular talks. The three countries "are advancing interaction in trilateral format," the Russian Foreign Minister, Sergei Lavrov, said today. In addition to what has now become a traditional meeting of the foreign ministers of the three countries on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly in autumn, they also plan to meet in Russia next year. "I discussed this issue with China's Foreign Minister and renewed our invitation to hold a trilateral meeting in Russia. This meeting is likely to take place next year," Mr. Lavrov said. He was speaking at a press conference after a meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Moscow, which united Russia, China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan. The Chinese Foreign Minister, Li Zhaoxing, described the relations with Russia and India as "very friendly." The three countries were engaged in "close contacts and cooperation" both in bilateral and trilateral format, he said.
