TDP objects to YSR's statement

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, APRIL 23. The Telugu Desam Party has objected to the statement of the Congress leader, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, that the TDP, if re-elected, would sell away even the impressive building of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

At a press conference here on Friday, the party spokesperson, A.V. Subramanyam (AVS), said that `ammakam' (sale) was a favourite term with the Congress. `They (Congress leaders) have made a mess of whatever little respect they had among people when they sold party ticket to the highest bidder. If they are elected to power, the Congress party will sell away every inch of Andhra Pradesh,' he said.

Recalling Dr. Reddy's promise that he would change the face of Cuddapah district, he wondered what the `popular leader' had been doing all these years. `All of a sudden, realisation seems to have dawned on him,' he said.

Launching a broadside on the Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief, K. Chandrasekhar Rao, for his comments on the TDP, Mr. AVS asked, `Where was the TRS leader from the day of poll till yesterday. It appears that he was in slumber and woke up to state that people of coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema were good friends of his. We repeat our challenge to the Congress to arrange for Mr. Rao's campaign in the second phase.'

The party spokesperson said the TDP had always been for an integrated Andhra Pradesh and that the TDP-BJP combine was very clear in its objective. Only regional outfits with regional outlook have different plans for different regions, he said.
