Seven persons including three women and two children were killed when the car in which they were travelling collided head on with a speeding lorry near Chepur under Armoor police station, about 35 km from Nizamabad district headquarters on Friday.

Tragedy struck two families from Argul village in Jakranpalli mandal who were on their way to a temple at the Sriramsagar project in Pochampad village, when the Maruti car driven by a Government school teacher, Jagan Reddy, rammed into a Tamil Nadu-bound lorry near Chepur. Seven out of nine passengers in the car died on the spot. Akhilesh, (nine months) and Chinni, (3). Only Meghana and Nikhil, children of Srinivas Reddy, survived the tragedy. Nikhil was shifted to Hyderabad as his condition turned critical. Meghana is recuperating at a private hospital in Armoor town.

The bodies were badly mutilated and the police and passersby had a harrowing time in retrieving the bodies. There were no survivors in Jagan Reddy's family as his wife and two children died. The Highway patrol van of the Armoor sub-division and the Armoor Station House Officer, Chatur Singh Rathod, rushed to the spot and pulled out the mangled piece of vehicle.

Two seriously injured children - Meghana and Nikhil Reddy - were pulled out of the wreckage. Nikhil Reddy, was rushed to the District headquarters hospital in
