AG's opinion binding on all parties, says Antony

KOZHIKODE, APRIL 23 . The Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, today said the view of the Advocate General (AG) that there was no need to refer the Marad massacre case to the CBI was binding on all parties which signed the agreement hammered out to restore peace to the seaside village.

Speaking at a meet-the-press programme of the Kozhikode Press Club, Mr. Antony said that according to the agreement, the demand for a CBI probe was to be referred to the AG for his expert opinion. And the AG's opinion submitted to the Government was that the case could not be referred to the CBI. This had been placed before the Assembly and was known to all parties to the dispute, including those who were still demanding the CBI inquiry. He said the AG's opinion had to be accepted by all those who were parties to the agreement.
