`Infam has insulted farmers'

By Our Special Correspondent

KOZHIKODE, APRIL 23. The CPI(M)-led Karshaka Sangham has accused Infam of enacting a farce by going on an indefinite hunger strike to demand more reliefs for farmers and withdrawing it a few days later.

``By launching its agitation a day before the Chief Minister was due to reach Wayanad and withdrawing it the next day in the presence of the Chief Minister and the UDF candidate without getting any concrete assurances, Infam has insulted the entire farmer community. It is now clear the whole thing was pre- planned and stage-managed,'' M. Velayudhan, district secretary of the Karshka Sangham, Wayanad district committee, alleged in a statement today. He alleged the Infam agitation was a drama enacted by Infam leaders to prompt farmers to vote for UDF and also that the `play' was scripted by the UDF convener and Infam leader, Robin Vadakkumcherry.

The Karshaka Sangham leader said the Infam leader owed an explanation to the farmers regarding the conditions that led to withdrawal of their strike.
