TIRUNELVELI, APRIL 23 . Seven candidates, including the Janata Dal (United) nominee for the Tirunelveli constituency and Radhapuram MLA, M. Appavu, and the president of the Congress Traders' Wing, H. Vasanthakumar, filed their papers for Tirunelveli segment, as the filing of nominations for the May 10 Lok Sabha polls entered the final day today. Though Mr. Appavu will be contesting with the JD (U) symbol "arrow" he will be supported by the People Alliance, formed by the Puhthiya Thamizhagam president, K. Krishnasamy, the Dalit Panthers of India general secretary, Thol. Thirumavalavan, and the Makkal Thamizh Desam president, S. Kannappan. The other independent candidates were renowned exporter and Dharan Audio proprietor, C. Sridhar Babu (41) of Palayamkottai, A. Muthukumar (36) of Boldenpuram in Tuticorin district, Sulaiman Sait (33) of Bharathi Nagar in Ramanathapuram district, K. Thirumalai Nambi of Bryant Nagar and A. Kalyanasundaram (57) of Palayamkottai. Meanwhile, the Puthiya Thamizhagam president and PA candidate for Tenkasi reserve constituency, K. Krishnasamy, filed his papers to the Collector and Returning Officer, Sunil Paliwal, today. A. Saravanan (28) of Thaalayuththu, K. Madasamy (31) of Pallamadai, C. Raakkan (33) of Tenkasi, and N. Subbiah (46) Devipattinam also filed their nominations for the Tenkasi segment as independents.

As many as nine independent candidates M. M. Ziadhu (28), and S.M. Sadakkathullah (55), both hailing from Kaayalpattinam, Joseph Kennedy (40) of Kaanam, V. Manickavasagam (67) of Ammanpuram, P. Ramakrishnan (70) of Tiruchendur, A. Thiyagarajan (22) of Veeramanickam, R. Sivananainthaperumal (49) of Paramankurichi, S. Shaik Abdul Gafur (33) of Pettai in Tirunelveli district and V. Selvakumar (39) of Sattankulam today filed their nominations for the Tiruchendur Parliamentary constituency.
Nagercoil
Five independents, C. Thangamani, P. Jamal Uddin, B. N. Murugan, B. Subash and K. Prabhakaran filed their nomination papers for the Nagercoil Lok Sabha seat today. With this, the total number of persons including the political party candidates and independents, who have submitted their nomination papers, has risen to 12. The nomination papers would be scrutinised tomorrow and the last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is April 26.
Ramanathapuram
The founder of the Makkal Tamil Desam and the People's Alliance candidate, S. Kannappan, filed his nomination papers for the Ramanathapuram Lok Sabha constituency to the Collector, S. Vijaya Kumar. Similarly, the Tamil Maanilla Muslim League candidate, Mohaideen Abdul Kader of Mandapam, the Siva Sena candidate, Thoothai Selvam of Thirupuvanam and five other independent candidates, Karuppiha of Velipattinam, Bose of Manamadurai, Saravana Murugan of Kamudhi, Dhanabalan of Appanur and Veeriha of Edayarkulam filed their nomination papers. Sivaganga Two independent candidates, Ramiha (22) of Keelanallikottai near Thirumayam and Azagappan (42) of Onasiruvayal near Karaikudi filed their nomination papers to the Collector, J.Radhakrishnan.
Virudhunagar
Seven nominations, including those from the Janata Dal (United) candidate, Deepa Valentina, and the Tamil Maanila Muslim League, M. Dhasthageer, were received today for the Sivakasi Lok Sabha constituency. With this, the total number of nominations for the Lok Sabha seat today rose to 16. The independents, who filed their papers to the Returning Officer, A. Mohammed Aslam, were, V. Kannan, K. Venkatesan, K. Ganesan, A. Pitchai Thevar and M. Sankaran.
