NEW DELHI, APRIL 23. The Supreme Court today adjourned till July the hearing on a special leave petition filed by the Tamil Nadu Government seeking cancellation of the bail given by the Madras High Court to R. R. Gopal, editor, Nakkheeran, a Pervention of Terrorism Act detenu. When the matter came up today before a Bench comprising Justice R.C. Lahoti and Justice Ashok Bhan, Abhishek Singhvi, counsel for Mr. Gurusamy submitted that the Central POTA Review Committee was seized of the matter and it was likely to decide the question by June whether the act had been rightly or wrongly invoked on Mr. Gopal. However, senior counsel, P.P. Rao, appearing for the State Government submitted that the High Court was wrong in granting bail to Mr. Gopal, which was unheard off. He wanted the hearing to be expedited. However, the Bench agreed with Mr. Singhvi and told Mr. Rao that if the POTA Review Committee was to come to a conclusion that the act had been wrongly invoked on Mr. Gopal, then the SLP itself would become infructuous.
