TIRUCHI, APRIL 23 . A training programme for Corporation health officials was inaugurated at the Corporation Dispensary at the East Boulevard Road here today. The Corporation Commissioner, Anand Patil, inaugurated the programme, organised under the Prevention of Parent to Child Transmission Programme, sponsored by the UNICEF and the Tamil Nadu AIDS Control Society. Mr. Patil said the project was aimed at preventing the spread of AIDS from the HIV-infected parents to children. About 150 women had been tested for HIV at the dispensary over the past four months, and two were found positive. He called for creating an awareness among the people and health workers of the need for checking the spread of HIV. The Health Officer, M. Akila, the Assistant Commissioners, S. Balasubramanian, P.S. Soundararajan, R. Ramani and S.P. Balraj, and the Project Officer, Amutha Chokalingam spoke.
