1,400 policemen to do poll duty in Udupi

UDUPI, APRIL 23. The Superintendent of Police, S. Murugan, said on Friday that all security arrangements were in place for the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Udupi district to be held on April 26.

He told presspersons here that 1,400 police personnel would be pressed into service for the smooth conduct of the election. More than 700 police personnel from Koppal, Gulbarga, Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, and Tumkur districts and Mysore Police Training School would be drafted for election duty. Besides these, two companies of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), and three platoons of KSRP would be pressed into service. Of the 831 booths in the district, 123 were hypersensitive and 236 sensitive.

Every hypersensitive booth would have one Head Constable and a police constable while there would be one police constable for every sensitive booth. The staff from the Forest Department would also be pressed into service for election duty. Sixty-four vehicles would be used for election duty, including 58 mobile parties and six supervisory mobile parties. Each mobile party would consist of an officer and two constables. The mobile party would be equipped with a wireless set, Mr. Murugan said.
