Jaleel Khan's TDP entry irks many

By Our Staff Reporter

VIJAYAWADA, APRIL 23. The admission of the former Congress MLA, Jaleel Khan, into the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has stirred up the proverbial hornet's nest in the party. While the one-time TDP MLA (1983-85), Adusmilli Jaya Prakash, came out in the open against Mr. Khan's foray into the TDP here on Friday, there are many other leaders who share his feelings in private.

But, at least for now, they seemed to have decided to remain silent and observe the reaction to Mr. Jaya Prakash's outbursts. Mr. Jaya Prakash, who is the TDP's convenor for Vijayawada East Constituency, Adusumilli Jaya Prakash, urged his party leadership to reconsider its decision to admit Mr. Jaleel Khan, into the party. In a statement issued here on Friday, Mr. Jaya Prakash said that the TDP leadership should have considered the admission of Mr. Khan into the party more carefully as Mr. Khan, by his own admission, paid money to Congress leaders for a party ticket.

Recalling that the former MLA was among those who used the choicest abuses against Mr. Naidu, Mr. Jaya Prakash said that the TDP activists, who were harassed by Mr.Khan and his sympathisers on several occasions, were unable to digest his entry into the party. Further, Mr. Jaya Prakash said, he was deeply hurt by the fact that the TDP president, who took no interest to strengthen the party by constituting a city committee, was now claiming that Mr. Khan's entry, just a couple of days before the elections would strengthen the party.
