By Our Staff Reporter
GUNTUR, APRIL 23. A police constable, Abdul Aziz, of the Arundelpet police station was injured when Congress workers from Thadikonda hurled stones at the police personnel when the latter stopped nine of their vehicles in Guntur on Friday. The Arundelpet Sub-Inspector of Police, Muralikrishna, said that they had confiscated nine vehicles of Thandikonda Congress candidate and five of the Telugu Desam Party on Friday evening as they were being plied for campaigning without the permission of the Returning Officer. The Congress workers demanded that the vehicles be released and when the police refused to do so, the workers began hurling stones at the police station. The police then dispersed the mob between 5.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m., the SI said and denied the allegations that they had resorted to lathicharge. The Telugu Desam Party workers, however, did not protest the confiscation of the vehicles for violating the code, he added. The Congress is believed to have mobilised people for the public meeting addressed by the All India Congress Committee president, Sonia Gandhi, at Brahmananda Reddy Stadium on Friday evening.
