`Lovers' bid to end life

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, APRIL 23. In what appears to be a suicide pact, a Class IX student and his Class XII girl friend allegedly tried to end their lives by slitting their throats with a blade at New Ashok Nagar in East Delhi this morning. They have been admitted to Kailash Hospital in Noida and are stated to be in serious condition.

Around 6-30 a.m., the Police Control Room (PCR) received a call saying that a boy and a girl had tried to commit suicide in his New Ashok Nagar house. Their parents, who are neighbours, rushed them to Kailash Hospital. The police found a bloodstained blade and a suicide note from the spot bearing signatures of the boy and the girl asking forgiveness from their parents.

Though the police have not yet been able to question their parents, they believe that the boy and the girl were in love. Their fathers are colleagues in the Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL). The Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Delhi), Nuzhat Hassan, said the police would enquire from them after their wards were out of danger. Meanwhile, a case has been registered at New Ashok Nagar police station.

In another incident, two relatives hanged themselves to death in their rented accommodation at Dilshad Garden in North-East Delhi on Thursday night. Murari (26) and Dharmender (22) used to work in a factory at Shahdara. On Thursday night, they returned from work and asked their landlady to prepare some vegetable for them. However, when she went to their room, she found the door locked from inside. She knocked several times, but did not get any response, which raised suspicion.

The landlord then informed the police. They broke open the door and found Murari and Dharmender hanging from the ceiling. The two were rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. While the local police have initiated inquest proceedings into the matter, initial investigations revealed that they were in love with the same girl.
